So Elegant Themes is clearly on a mission to decimate all WordPress visual builders. They’re basically the 2010 Apple version of a WordPress theme developer. And by that I mean that they’re, they’re not okay with just sitting back on the work that they’ve done. They’re innovating and continually pushing the envelope on what we can do with Divi and what we expect from the product. They recently pushed out an update that brought with it some Divi position options. If you’re familiar with CSS, then you absolutely know about fixed and absolute positions. Elegant Themes is essentially taken the power of CSS and dropped it into a simple and intuitive interface to save time and to increase the out of the box possibilities with Divi. And also to make it more accessible to people who aren’t coders.

Every single Divi section row module now have these built in Divi position options. And this is a huge welcome addition for a developer like me. I challenged myself with every single Divi build to make it not feel like Divi. In the past is took hundreds of lines of custom CSS in some cases. But over the past few months, and really the past year and a half Elegant Themes has helped me reduce the amount of custom CSS and to utilize built in options to create even more unique layouts that I’ll be able to then I have been able to bring to life in the past.

The other really big part of these new options is that it allows you to drop different segments or sections or rows or modules wherever you want on the page, you can literally put something in the top right hand corner, bottom right hand corner, bottom left top left, you can move them around on the space that they are kind of similar to the Translate functions that are translate options they brought last year, but it’s a little more powerful, because it’s going to use the actual position.

The other really, really big thing about this, and one that they didn’t mention in the video is that this also allows you to create full sections inside of the theme builder for headers and footers that are actually fixed. This is huge, because if you do go to our website, which we kind of mentioned in the close of this show, we redesigned our page Well, we had to do some custom code on the theme builder to put the header on desktop at the top and make it fixed and then also push down the content. Because when you do a fixed header, the old fashioned way, with CSS, the content shifts all the way to the top of the page, it no longer gives you that space that the that the menu took up before. So you have to overcompensate that with some code, we also had to do the same thing with the footer because on mobile, we didn’t want our menus to be up at the top anymore.
Keegan 3:08
It’s very difficult with big phones on mobile to reach up to the top with one hand, and a lot of people are doing a lot of things so their hands You know, you don’t always have two hands for your phone. So we moved our menu down to the bottom and added a call to action button for different pages that will continue to build out. But you know, these new functions came about a week and a half too late. Because we’ve already done the coding, we may go in and take out the custom code, it’s less to load better speed times and utilize some of these natively built in functionalities that Divi just added or that Elegant Themes just added to Divi. So it’s exciting. And the possibilities, they really are endless, you can take a section and create it and put it to the bottom left of the page, use a little bit of JavaScript to make it appear when you’ve scrolled a certain amount of time down the page.
Keegan 3:54
There’s a lot of different things you can do, you can just put a straight animation on it and make it pop up after so many seconds. There’s a lot of different options. I’m just spitballing a few of them. But I think you get the idea. There’s a lot that can be done with this. And I think this is another really, really, really big release from Elegant Themes, and one that probably won’t get a whole lot of fanfare. I mean, they do drop a lot of updates, and they do it really well. So I’m excited and go out there. And definitely talk about some of these options in the in the Facebook groups and share with us what you’re creating with these new options. We’re super excited to see it.
