In today’s episode I’m going to talk about a recent chat I had with Josh Hall on the Josh Hall Web Design Show.

What’s up everybody? Welcome to Episode 7.1 of the Divi addocts podcast, we’re officially starting season seven, completely lost track of how many episodes we put out here, but it’s a lot we’re almost at two years. It’s so exciting. And you know, at the end of this two years or as it’s approaching, I’m really starting to reminisce on two years of the Divi addicts podcast, how far we’ve come the process, my delivery on the microphone, the equipment that we use you the community, the way you’ve embraced it, just all of the things and a lot of feels, you know, you get goosebumps talking about how far we’ve come. I’m really excited for the product that we’ve been able to put out, feel very good about it. And you know, recently I got to sit down with a guy that I really admire in the community. His name is Josh Hall. If you’re not familiar with Josh, drop what you’re doing, hit the pause button, pull over to the side of the road, pause this episode, pull out your browser and go to Josh Hall.co.
Keegan 1:26
If you don’t know him already, you should be following his work, you should be listening to the Josh Hall Web Design Show, you should be looking at his tutorials on YouTube, you should be reading his blogs. The guy is a wealth of knowledge very, very good at what he does. And he’s one of those. He’s one of those leaders in the community who gives back in a very, very big way. So if you get some value from this, I know that you’ll get value and a tremendous amount of it from Josh so go check out his work.
Keegan 1:56
But today I really wanted to talk and recap. A great conversation that he and I had we talked for over an hour about the Divi community about my journey about his journey we talked about a ton of things and I wanted to kind of recap that here and make sure that in the show notes there’s a link over to the episode that he and I have of his show so that you guys can check it out. See the different styles learn as much as you can and just grow inside of this Divi community. So to start our talk off, it was all about community was about the Divi community and how it was different. We talked about you know my first entrance into WordPress which we’ve covered on the show here a lot you know using Elementor and use an X theme and using WP bakery which was visit visual composer back then I’ve used Jupiter used a lot of different a lot of different themes.
Keegan 2:53
And then there was that that magic aha moment like 2015 2016 where I found Elegant Themes.com, saw blooms saw a lot of the different plugins they have saw the wealth of other themes they have but I saw Divi and I gave Divi a shot and you know in our in our talk with Josh and you know he asked me a very interesting question he said had you not found Divi where could you picture yourself as far as the WordPress journey and I can honestly say and I answered on that on that episode that I probably would not be doing this you know, I found a lot of things that are very fulfilling from doing web design and specifically this part the the podcast, the YouTube videos, the Divi tutorials, the layouts, staying fresh in the creative scene, but also giving back to the community has been unbelievably gratifying, I get a lot of fulfillment from it, it makes me feel really good that I can take what I’ve learned document my journey and give it back.
Keegan 3:53
We talked about how important it is to try anything, and really never stop testing and trying. That’s where the Divi addicts podcast started. You know, originally if you go back to the very beginning, for those of you who’ve been here, you’ll know those first episodes were basically in tandem with Elegant Themes as they released. These sneak peeks at what the updates were, that were coming on Divi whether it was a theme builder, or drag and drop or copy or extend styles. All those things were some of our early episodes, and it’s gotten into more detail and now we’re we’re talking about growing authority and starting a course and the biggest downfalls of using Divi and how to successfully update Divi business maintenance plans and what to do when starting your freelance business and all those different topics. You know, we go all over the place.
Keegan 4:42
But the important thing is to try anything and never really stopped testing the waters. You know, originally we were just doing web design and then we started the podcast and then we started putting out videos on YouTube once a week or once every other week if I’m honest. I try but you know, there’s a lot of Different things that we’ve tried. And this podcast has been one of the most consistent things we’ve done over the last two years, where every week we’re dropping new content every single Tuesday, six o’clock every single Tuesday at 6am, you’re getting an episode of the Divi addicts podcast. So continue to try. Try it all. And, yeah.
Keegan 5:19
The other part that we really talked about is something that we have covered here is systems and processes and how important those systems and processes are, and how you should not feel bad. If you’re doing a web design as a side hustle, and you haven’t scaled, there’s a lot of talk out there about scaling, and just be happy with where you are in the process. You don’t have to scale if you don’t feel like scaling, you can be a one man shop, it’s everybody’s life and their needs. And what it takes for them to be happy. And also to sustain their lifestyle is different for each person. So find where you’re happy and where your needs are met. And don’t try and be something that you don’t need to be or that you don’t want to be just be you.
Keegan 6:00
We talked a lot about giving back, you know, through things like Divi addict podcast, Josh, Josh Hall Web Design Show, that tutorials, the Elegant Themes series that Josh has done. Just all of the products, the courses, the knowledge that everything is a way of giving back to the community. And a lot of our communal talk was centered around Facebook groups. And there’s so many Facebook groups out there. And for those of you who have who have been in Facebook groups, you know, they’re not always the most positive. A lot of times people get flamed, they get just ripped apart for asking what is a basic question, but one that’s maybe basic to most but not basic to them, because they’re just starting. So there’s a lack of respect or a lack of empathy for where people are at in their journey. Not everybody’s on the same level as you some are ahead, some are behind, everybody’s at their different phase. So it’s important to be very empathetic about people and their journey and where they are.
Keegan 6:59
And that’s what is beautiful about the Divi community, they are extremely empathetic, very, very helpful. And it’s, it’s a great place to be, especially if you’re just starting out where you can go and feel comfortable asking questions that you need the answers to. So, you know, I wanted to sum and wrap this this main part of the conversation up with what sets Divi apart from a lot of the other products and a lot of the other communities. And one thing Josh and I talked about was their openness, and they’re very intentional. Also, they were intentional about a brand.
Keegan 7:34
You see Nathan’s face you see the cadence that he talks with they release new updates the same way the same style every single time that they put out an update they bring in guys like Mac or Matt, you know Matt did all of the sneak peeks that Divi did whenever they were doing the Sneak Peek videos. That was their brand you recognize the voice you know when you saw a certain cover on their thumbnail and you heard that voice you were getting a sneak peek. Same way you know with BJ Keeton, when he does the weekly recaps it looks the same way it feels the same way. They brand those things and they do it very consistently. I hope you get that from this podcast as well.
Keegan 8:11
You know, they were very very humble in the way that they approached their developers, they you know, Elegant Themes could have said you know, if you use Divi, anywhere we’re gonna shut you down this is our trademark, you can’t have it, but they opened it up and they allowed people to do what they do, which was huge, it’s a beautiful thing and it’s it’s not something that happens in every community. So I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it again to wrap this this thing up. First and foremost, thank you to Josh for having me on the podcast I’ve looked up to Josh has worked for a very long time he and I have followed similar paths you know musicians, he’s a drummer, I pretend to be a drummer especially on my dashboard I love to air drum but I do actually enjoy playing the drum kit too.
Keegan 8:58
You know we’ve we’ve found this creative outlet we enjoy giving back to the community we enjoy teaching people he you know he and I have followed very similar paths and I’ve got a lot of respect for where he’s at in his life and where he’s at in his business. So it was awesome to be on there. I can’t say thank you enough and you know just again thank you to the entire Divi community and you specifically for for listening to this podcast for supporting us and you know we’re not seeing shoot to the moon style analytics we’re not growing at the at this crazy rapid rate which I really actually enjoy and love because it makes me appreciate the process. And I know that every single one of you who are listening right now are very dedicated to this very dedicated to the quality of what we’re putting out here and you’re getting value from Roche you wouldn’t be coming back and we wouldn’t be seeing that growth.
Keegan 9:51
So I appreciate you coming back here. I appreciate you sharing it with somebody who you think can get some strong value out of it. It just it really means a lot Because it makes it feel like the work that we’re doing here. And what we’re bringing out to the community is actually impacting you and bringing you some value. So thank you. I do definitely appreciate that. And that that’s really going to put a boat of this thing we’re going to link up to Josh Hall’s episode. As soon as it hits, you’ll be able to as soon as you hear this, you’re going to be able to go out and listen to that episode as well. So follow Josh follow his work, check out his courses. He’s got some some really solid stuff out there. So we appreciate you and yeah, that really concludes the wrap up of my talk with Josh.
Keegan 10:36
So y’all know that we’ve, we’ve introduced this resource of the week and we’re going to circle back and kind of recycle one that we’ve used in the past because if you have listened to the resource of the week, you know that we featured Josh Hall.co at certain points in time. And we want to point out that Josh has these really awesome tutorials we just talked about in this episode, and the Divi community is huge, but you don’t find a lot of people dedicated in the way that Josh is, you know, he’s built this business to support his family. While he’s he’s staying so dedicated to this community. So check out Josh Hall.co click on his tutorials to see everything that he’s got all of his awesome work. And check out the courses so you can supercharge your web design business.
