In today’s episode we’re talking about keeping going when times get tough.
Keegan 0:22
What’s up everybody and welcome back to the Divi addicts podcast. This is episode for season seven, and we’re still going strong and right now times are crazy, right? I mean there’s there’s the global pandemic, the Coronavirus, that’s changing the way you work is changing the way we work is changing the way people live their lives. And I don’t know that in my 35 years of life that I’ve experienced anything quite like this, right? I mean, it’s a social media has sped this thing up, there’s a lot of information out there both true and false. There’s just so many different things that you can read that you can get information from, and most people just don’t know what’s true, what’s not, and they don’t know how to act.
Keegan 1:12
So it’s very tough times it’s difficult to, to know where your where your money is going to come from. And if you’re going to be able to create income for yourself, you know, so many people have been laid off. Those of you who’ve been around and who’ve connected with me know that this is the Keegan Lanier media experiment, the business that it is, and this Divi addicts podcasts are all side hustles for me, I am a I’m a franchise coach for a restaurant chain. And I’ve got 38 restaurants, and the restaurant industry is one of those industries has been impacted heavily by this Coronavirus. And by the global shutdown, that’s that’s happening and escalating and just all those things, right? We’ve laid off so many people and had to furlough them and it’s it’s difficult, it weighs on you mentally It weighs on you professionally, weighs on you personally.
Keegan 2:04
Go out and my heart goes out for all these people, you know who are unable to make a little bit of money and we’re doing everything we can to keep them working. And that’s the whole purpose of this podcast is a title that just keeps swimming. You know, I think about Finding Nemo and I think about you know, it doesn’t matter how tough it is, you just got to keep on swimming. And that’s what I love about the Divi community. That’s what I love about the opportunities that we have here. Being a website freelancer, I’m really able to continue to work, I’m able to continue to bring in money, I’m able to continue to do what I really enjoy. Which is, is awesome. I mean, it’s I can’t understate that. I mean, it’s, it’s a privilege, it’s definitely an honor. And I’m working with some really awesome people. So it keeps me engaged. It keeps me doing what I really enjoy. But also it allows me to continue to make money and support the lifestyle that I have in the family that I have, and the people who depend on me.
Keegan 3:04
And I know that’s what anybody who’s out there who’s out there who’s scared for not being able to bring in money, it’s all about that it’s being able to provide for yourself and provide for your family. So in this time of need, I mean the biggest messages, Just keep swimming, educate yourself, if you’re not working right now, pick up, you know, third party delivery jobs, get online, go to Fiverr.com. And that’s gonna, we’re talking about that a little bit later. But go to Fiverr.com any skills you have get on YouTube and watch videos, take courses, do whatever you can to educate yourself on a skill that you can do from anywhere in the world as a fallback in case your main career just doesn’t work out, or, you know, times like today where we just have a period of uncertainty, we don’t know what’s coming, we don’t know how long it’s going to last.
Keegan 3:48
And those are, those are terrifying things because it’s not, it’s not the virus. That’s really the scary part. Although it is the scariest part is that there’s no end in sight, or at least not that there’s not an end in sight, but that we cannot see what that end is we don’t have a timeline on it. That’s what makes this a little bit more terrifying or a little bit more worrisome than a lot of other things. When you can see the end in mind, you know you’re going to you’re going to charge to it right? You’re going to you’re going to look for that finish line when you can’t see it it’s tough. And anybody who’s an entrepreneur, anybody who’s in business this is the kind of thing that’s always in your life right you live for that you live trying to build a business not knowing what where the next the next big wins is gonna come from where the next hurdle is going to come from. You just don’t know there’s no there’s no end in sight and it takes me back to to Gary Vee.
Keegan 4:40
If you ever listened to Gary Vaynerchuk you know that he talks about the he has an end in mind he wants to be the owner of the Jets that’s that’s for sure that’s his North Star but you know, he loves the process. The process is what he lives for. So if you if you can dedicate yourself to this process of learning and to continue to fight regardless of what happens You’re going to be just fine. You just got to teach yourself a skill, you’ve got to learn that skill, you’ve got to put in the time to become very good at it, and do a skill that that brings value to other people. And then from there, it’s just swim, keep on swimming, do not give up, stay relentless, go out there, get it every single day. And I take all this back to this industry that I really enjoy.
Keegan 5:23
And then I truly do love the web does the web development community, especially around Divi, because the community if you’ve been in the Facebook groups, the community is unreal. I mean, they’re they’re so supportive, so friendly. And, you know, it’s, it’s what I’ve always loved. And what I’ve talked about on with Josh Hall and his podcast, what I’ve talked about numerous times here, on the podcast, they’re just very supportive, and there’s people who are still working, businesses want, they still want websites, people still need you to maintain their products, people still need graphics, they’re still trying to double down on their marketing efforts. So there’s a lot of a lot of area out there, and there’s a lot of money to still be made.
Keegan 6:02
We’re not completely shut down. You know, there are some industries that have been heavily impacted. And you talked about the restaurant industry, that’s one where those people have been heavily impacted. But if you learn a skill, when you’ve got something to fall back on, you will never truly be without. So I’m gonna put a cap on this on this episode. And we’re gonna go to the the resource of the week.
Keegan 6:25
So we alluded to it a little bit earlier in this week’s resource of the week is fiverr.com. We’re gonna link it in the show notes below and what Fiverr is, if you’re not familiar with it, it allows you to go in there, create a profile and offer some sort of service. And people can go to fiverr.com and find different service providers for whatever they need. Whether it’s making graphics or YouTube thumbnails, or websites or video intros or audio podcast intros or whatever it is, there’s tons of different things. T shirt designs are a perfect example.
Keegan 6:57
So fiverr is someplace if you have a skill, if you know how to install WordPress or you know how to set up a premium premium theme like Divi or you know how to do audio editing you could do podcast intro, you can make a little bit of money there you know if you go out and share your share your links and make sure people know that you’re on there people are gonna find you and you’ll be able to make some cash in the process so it’s our resource of the week but it’s also one that can be very practical for you So go out there and sign up or at least check fiverr out.
Keegan 7:27
So as always, you know we’re gonna put a nice little bow on this episode I do appreciate you. I thank you guys so much for for listening to the podcast for supporting the podcast for going through some of these ads, so I could make a couple pennies on this episode and I do appreciate you. I want us to get to know each other on a deeper level, know each other what we’re working on what we like what we’re good at. I want to build that community.
Keegan 8:07
So if you’re anywhere involved in the WordPress environment, especially in the Divi community, from, from optimization of hosts from Divi customisations from plugins that work with Divi, if it’s LMS, specializations, whatever it is, if you’re in this community, reach out to us introduce yourself say hi and let’s let’s have a real conversation about how we can impact this this community and do something really, really strong and positive for people out there who are struggling and who are just not even with the Coronavirus stuff but who are struggling to take their business to the next level and really, really changed the the trajectory of their life. So thank you guys. Appreciate you as always We’ll see you next week on another episode of the Divi addicts podcast.
